Sometimes, braces alone are not enough to correct the problems with your smile. You might have a small palate that needs to be expanded to correct your bite, for example. In these cases, your orthodontist will recommend an additional treatment option. Some of the most common ones :

Used to hold the molars in positions while other teeth are moved into place. VIDEO
Used to widen your upper jaw by applying gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. VIDEO
May be used in conjunction with braces to shorten your treatment time and correct problems such as overcrowding among the front teeth. Headgear has a metal bow that fits into the orthodontic bands located on the back upper teeth and can be used to push back the molars to ease the overcrowding. It is mostly advised for children younger than 10 who do not have all of their permanent teeth and is typically worn between 10 to 12 hours a day. The orthodontist will give detailed instructions on how it should be used. VIDEO
